If you arrive in Finland at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport, there are good coach connections
(e.g. FINNAIR buses) to the city centre (main railway station). You can also take a coach
from the airport to Savonlinna (and various other towns/ cities in Finland). Passenger ferries arrive at Helsinki harbour which is located in the city
centre. From the harbour, there are good bus and tram connections to the railway station
(RAUTATIEASEMA) and to the coach/ bus station (LINJA-AUTOASEMA).
There are several possibilities for travelling from Helsinki to
Savonlinna. You can either take a train, coach or plane. There are daily express coach
services from Helsinki (city centre, coach station) and from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to
Savonlinna (approx. 5-6 hours).
An express train journey from Helsinki to Savonlinna takes about 5
hours (change trains at Parikkala), whereas a flight from Helsinki takes 40-50 minutes
(4-5 daily flights to Savonlinna, see also travelling in Finland for prices, note: special
student discounts available for youth under 25 yrs.).
From the Savonlinna airport, you can take a taxi to the
centre; a regular taxi charge from airport to the centre is EUR 30-40.
Please note that there are two train stations in Savonlinna:
